WHEN TO TAKE OFF YOUR JEWELLERY

We advise you remove your jewellery before

  • Bed (sleeping or otherwise)
  • Showers/baths
  • Swimming pools/oceans
  • Physical exercise
  • Washing dishes

OXIDISATION

Many Tea and Cake pieces use oxidisation as a feature.  This is when metal reacts with the oxygen in air and the surface is blackened.  As you wear jewellery the connection with your skin will prevent oxidisation, however if your piece has been left unworn for some time it will oxidise over time.  To bring your piece back to a new shine, we recommend using a silver cloth, rather than a silver dip.  Silver dip will remove all the black, even from areas where it should remain as part of the design.

Note: If your piece has oxidised, you may notice spots of green oxidisation.  This will be oxidisation of a connecting metal (usually a small percentage of copper in solder).  It does not mean your piece is not sterling silver.

STORAGE

To keep your jewellery at its best, we recommend you

  • Wrap your pieces individually in a jewellery box, bag, cloth, or acid-free tissue paper
  • Keep your pieces away from heat and moisture
  • Wear your pieces often and give them a polish if they start to become dull
